The Jewish Youth Encounter Program is the
largest independent Hebrew School for children
in grades three to seven in Bergen County, NJ,
educating children from more than twenty-five
towns.  The JYEP was started in 1985 and serves
as the
Pilot School for the National Jewish
Enrichment Project for Youth.

Every child in our school is given the individual
attention they deserve in order to
nurture their
Jewish souls-- Neshamas.

Now entering our twentieth year, the JYEP has
successfully brought the
spirit and joy of Judaism
to hundreds of Jewish families in Bergen County.
In addition to the traditional classroom setting, the
students of the JYEP benefit from  utilizing the
talents of committed young adults who serve as
Big Brothers and Big Sisters, individual tutors,
mentors and friends They get to experience a
traditional Judaism that is alive and vibrant
through their relationships with their Big Brothers
and Big Sisters.

The
goal of the JYEP is to foster in each child a
love of Judaism and a sense of pride in being
Jewish; to prepare them for their life as a Jew, not
just to prepare them for their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.

While their
Bar and Bat Mitzvah training is an
integral part of their meeting their goal, that is not
the end:
it is just the beginning.

The JYEP has regularly scheduled
Family
Programs
and monthly Club Hours.
There are 2
Shabbatonim where the children join
their Big Brothers and big Sisters for a traditional
Shabbat.

There is no membership fee to join the JYEP and
Synagogue affiliation is not required.
